An AP article by Emily Swanson recently claimed that most Americans support same-sex marriage. This article is nothing more than left-wing propaganda intended to influence culture rather than reflect it. Surveys of this kind can be skewed to make them say whatever you want them to say. On the contrary, a WPA Opinion Research Study found that 53% of voters believe marriage is only the union of one man and one woman. Regardless of whose study you look at, same-sex marriage must never become the law of the land or it will spark a revolt in the same way the Roe V. Wade decision gave birth to the modern Pro-Life movement that is steadily winning back the minds of common sense Americans who care about the unborn. It is natural law, common sense and a simple fact that marriage can only be the union of one man and one woman. Anything else is simply something else. A cat doesn’t become a dog just because you call it a dog. Americans of good faith must pray that the Court comes down on the right side of this issue, or we will most assuredly no longer be one nation under God.

Considering what the Scriptures say about prophecy,

“If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.” –1 Peter 4:11

“Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good…” –1 Thessalonians 5:19-21,

this is what I believe the Word of the Lord is for those seeking political office at this time in the history of our nation:

“America, you have been singing “God Bless America” for over 200 years, and I have blessed you beyond all the nations of the world, but now you have gone beyond the tipping point of my wrath, and so judgment will come as it has to nations that have rejected me. Yet in my wrath I may remember mercy. If you will repent and begin singing and declaring “America Bless God!” and turn from your independent ways, my grace may still be shed on thee. I am looking for a man or a woman who will be courageous enough to declare that America is “One Nation Under God.” I will give him favor and turn the hearts of people toward him, and he will be your leader and there will be revival in the land. This move must be supported by the leadership of my people, called by my Name. If you will pray like it all depends on Me, and work like it all depends on you, I will do it, and your sons and daughters, your grandsons and granddaughters will know the liberty you have enjoyed and I will get the glory. I am looking for that man or woman who will declare

‘We are One Nation Under God, and that will be the guiding foundation of all my political and legislative initiatives.’

That is the candidate who will win my favor. That is the man or woman I am waiting for. I have said it, and it will come to pass, because in my wrath I will remember mercy, for I am the Lord your God.”

There is one answer to adequately address the chaos demonstrated in Ferguson Missouri.

First of all, let’s debunk some myths that are being perpetuated by agenda driven opportunists: “Justice” is not one race scoring points over another. It is about protecting the innocent, and punishing the guilty individuals.

Violence, destruction of property and random chaos is evil-driven and part of sinful human nature unchanged over ages by so-called “social evolution.”

What we see in Ferguson is nothing more than human nature unrestrained by internal law, a sense of right and wrong that is taught by the Christian religion, and that has until recent times been the common moral standard of our nation. In short, the absence of Christian order leaves a void that is quickly filled by demonic chaos. Robert Winthrop, former Speaker of the House, taught us that,

All societies of men must be governed in some way or other. The less they may have of stringent State Government, the more they must have of individual self-government. The less they rely on public law or physical force, the more they must rely on private moral restraint. Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled, either by a power within them, or by a power without them; either by the Word of God, or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible, or by the bayonet.”

To the extent that the people will not be restrained by an internal law they must be restrained by “the bayonet,” the police, a government force. The logical end of which is a police state, and the loss of liberty. That’s why John Adams taught us that our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. So the only answer to address the Ferguson issue is to bring us back to the basic American mindset, that we are “One Nation Under God.” Abraham Lincoln reminded us that a house divided will not stand. Advocating for a particular group at the expense of our American identity is destructive, unpatriotic and will cause us to lose that which has made us exceptional among nations—American unity.

So it’s up to the clergy in Ferguson, and in the nation to pray for unity beginning in the Church, then preach that we are “One Nation Under God.” We must preach and teach righteousness, as Frederick Douglas, an African-American 19th century abolitionist taught us, quoting from Proverbs 14:34, that “righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people.” He said his single quest was to infuse this idea among the people, and so we must continue that quest.

True justice will only become reality when we, the people appeal to the Supreme Judge of the Universe as One Nation Under God.”

Now that the 2014 elections are over and we have elected a significant number of common-sense legislators and governors into office, it’s time to organize and begin to turn this ship of state around away from the rocky shoals it was headed for .

Our first course correction must steer us toward a reaffirmation of our national motto: “In God We Trust,” and a frank discussion of its meaning, and how it should impact public policy.

It’s interesting to note that even among our most conservative politicians, no one—not a single one that I have heard—has spoken about this fundamental truth that has produced the greatest nation the world has ever known. It is the architectural framework that must prevail if the American experiment is to continue and succeed.  Are they afraid to stand on what they believe? Are they listening to their political consultants advising them to refrain from using the “G” word?

It’s time for men and women of courage to state firmly—and without equivocation—the foundation of their political world view. It is as African-American Civil Rights leader, Frederick Douglass, told us,

[i]I have one great political idea. . . . That idea is an old one. It is widely and generally assented to; nevertheless, it is very generally trampled upon and disregarded. The best expression of it, I have found in the Bible. It is in substance, “Righteousness exalteth a nation; sin is a reproach to any people” [Proverbs 14:34]. . . This constitutes my politics – the negative and positive of my politics, and the whole of my politics. . . . I feel it my duty to do all in my power to infuse this idea into the public mind, that it may speedily be recognized and practiced upon by our people. 7

That idea is summarized in our national motto, and reaffirmed in the phrase, “One nation Under God.”

By our silence we have allowed a consistent drift away from these sure moorings that have led to peace and prosperity unknown in the world from its creation.

Consider the fact that our founders never said, “In Government We Trust,” or “In the Constitution We Trust,” or even “In We the People We Trust.” No, our trust is in something even greater—the God of the universe!

Governments change; the Constitution changes; we the people certainly change, but God never changes, and putting our trust in Him has provided a firm and stable reference point, our North Star, so-to-speak, that has allowed us to live under one form of government for over 200 years, a fact that Americans take for granted, but is nevertheless unheard of in other parts of the world. We enjoy living under the longest ever Constitutional republic. Our War for Independence came at a time when other nations were also seeking liberty, but none have enjoyed the peace and prosperity we have known.  France, who had their Revolution shortly after our War for Independence has known more than seven different forms of government since then. Italy has had over fifty!

As Americans, we could never imagine what it would be like to go to bed at night wondering what our government was going to look like in the morning, but in the rest of the world that is not an uncommon experience.

Why? It’s because we have put our trust, not in the unstable minds and hands of people, parties or parchments, but we have placed our trust in the unchanging sovereignty of God.

The idea that we are “One Nation Under God” also serves to provide a source of unity necessary for continued peace and progress.  We have seen the negative impact of “identity politics,” and by every measure it has proven to be counter-productive. Race relations have not improved, and studies show they have gotten worse. We must reaffirm, and incorporate into our lives and politics the truth that we are one nation—black, white, yellow, Hispanic, rich, poor, whatever, we are all Americans—one, nation, one people, under one God.  This must be the common, unifying and equalizing principle that brings us together as an American family. Someone might then say, “But where does that leave people who don’t believe in God?” Let me answer as President Eisenhower did,

[ii]Without God there could be no American form of government, nor an American way of life. Recognition of the Supreme Being is the first –the most basic- expression of Americanism.

So then, it is clear that anyone who does not believe in God may certainly enjoy the benefits of citizenship as long as they meet the legal requirements, but they can never be an American in spirit if they cannot even subscribe to our national motto, “In God We Trust.”

Let the turn-around begin, but my word to newly elected legislators and all those who hold public office is

“Be not afraid to speak of what you believe, and  boldly reset our nation- with a clear voice- on that firm foundation expressed in our national motto,  “In God We Trust.”

Let that be the beginning of the turn-around and I believe He will bless it and grant us success for the benefit of coming generations.

[i] Frederick Douglass Convention Speech 1852

[ii]“Remarks Recorded for the “Back-to-God” Program of the American Legion, 2/20/55

There is only one solution to the world’s problem of dealing with radical Islam, and it must be a multi-generational endeavor.  There can be no peaceful co-existence with a people bent on spreading their culture of death and tyranny to consume cultures of life and liberty.

For hundreds of years this enemy has been tolerated because it did not present a major threat to civilized societies, but it has now metastasized into a major threat to world civilization, and it can no longer be tolerated because it now has the technology and power to wreak havoc on the earth. We need national leadership that can successfully:

  1. Lead the American people to understand the threat of radical Islam and to choose to defeat it at any cost. Remember, it was a Democrat President, JFK, who articulated the character of the American spirit of 1961 when he said we will, “pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” We must re-claim that courageous American spirit. We need a President who will lead the Congress in a declaration of war against radical Islam, and then we must wage war to win.

  1. Then as a unified nation expressed in the voice of Congress, we must develop a coalition of  nations to join us in this war, and this must be done without political mischief. Every decision must be driven by discerning the most effective way to defeat radical Islam. America must be willing to lead unless and until another nation displays the resources and capacity to lead more effectively than we can.  Shared leadership would be the ideal, but not required. Then we must launch an all-out war to neutralize every enclave of radical Islam. There can be no question about the fact that this will be a “world-war,” a war over religion–the world powers against Radical Islam.

  1. Then we must initiate a long-view strategy to educate the progeny of our defeated foe about the blessings of liberty and self-government.

These three steps though simply stated represent the only solution—I repeat, the only solution—to the problem of radical Islam.  The longer we delay in its implementation, the more it will cost in blood and treasure, unless of course we surrender to the forces of radical Islam in their quest to establish the Caliphate called for by the blueprint they follow—the Koran.

Regarding the Koran and so-called “Moderate Muslims” we must make it clear that in this country at least, we hold freedom of religion as a human right, consistent with the precepts of our U.S. Constitution and our Judeo-Christian traditions.  Therefore we will not allow such things as the subjugation of women, honor killings, or any other activity that transgresses our laws and traditions. We are a “Christian” nation to the extent that our laws and institutions presuppose a belief in the God of the Bible and as our founders taught,

[i]“And whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God…and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.”

In order to secure liberty and peace for our posterity we must actively defeat radical Islam while at the same time we must encourage belief of our citizens in the God of the Bible while allowing people of other religions to live peaceably with us as long as the practice of their religion is consistent with the institutions and laws of our Constitutional republic.

The task I have outlined seems impossible—and it is. It can only succeed with the help of Divine Providence, that same Providence that gave victory to an ill-equipped, ill-trained band of rebels against the most powerful army in the world in its time.

The alternative is unthinkable. Let us therefore pray like it all depends on God, and work like it all depends on us to “assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

[i] Abraham Lincoln’s Proclamation calling for fasting and prayer , March 30, 1863

Whatever happened to the America that pledged to,

pay any price, bear any burden, meet anyhardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

That was JFK’s inaugural speech in 1961. Today almost three hundred girls are held captive by thugs intent on destroying liberty in the world and we do nothing. Oh, excuse me; I forgot. We are “tweeting” outrage. Somehow I don’t think that’s what President Kennedy had in mind when he talked about our commitment to preserve liberty, especially since his statement was directed to foreign nations, whether they wished us “well, or ill.”

Remember when Michelle Obama said that for the first time she was proud of her country? Well, for the first time I can honestly say I am ashamed of my country, because we are no longer living up to the principles of our creed. Every friend and every adversary knows that we will not defend the cause of liberty around the world. No, in fact, the federal government is bent on destroying liberty right here in our homeland.

When there is a greater effort to promote gay, lesbian and trans-gender lifestyles than there is to capture the murderers of our foreign ambassadors, it becomes clear that we are quickly abandoning the vision of our founders in exchange for a godless, perverted vision that will end in a sad obituary for the nation that was once “the world’s last best hope.”

We need a revival in our land to awaken those who know the truth, but have been complacent while godless socialist activists have dominated the national agenda. We must once again declare with boldness that we are, in fact, One Nation Under God, and revisit the timeless principles that have preserved our liberties since the Pilgrims settled in Plymouth. Those principles are the very same principles that foster a virtuous life, without which there can be no preservation of liberty.

The missing Malaysian airline fiasco is a clear example of why the United States of America must never turn over any significant control to other powers, especially if we may have to rely on that body at any time in the future. It’s clear, the Malaysians are either stonewalling us, or are simply too incompetent to know what happened to the plane and are too embarrassed to admit it.

The present administration and it’s leftist cohorts live in a parallel universe created in their classrooms where humanity is evolving toward civility and peace, the end thereof will eventually be the ability to answer Rodney Kings’s classic mystery to the left, “Why can’t we just get along?”

There is no mystery. There is evil in the world that finds expression in human nature which does not change. That’s why we must never entrust our safety to others who are not as developed technologically, intellectually, and yes, even morally as we are. They become prime candidates for evil against us. Because evil is universal, it can very well emerge from our own ranks, however it’s only logical-at least for those who believe in logic-to minimize the chances of regrettable outcomes by keeping such universal power within our own realm of authority.

If we are to diffuse American power, let it be diffused among the states and among the people, as our “unevolved” founders envisioned, but let us never diffuse our power and might to others who have no regard for our well-being. In other words, defend the Constitution and reaffirm in all our public policy that yes, we are an exceptional nation because we are in fact, “One nation Under God.” There is no other like us.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s recent rant expressing his intolerance toward residents who believe in the sanctity of life, the sanctity of marriage, and in the Second Amendment should send a clear warning to common sense citizens: Our present leadership is intent on bringing fundamental change that will undermine the time-tested values that have preserved peace and prosperity unknown to the rest of the world.

Either we will be one nation under God, or a people enslaved by secular tyranny. Does Cuomo think of conservatives the way Hitler thought of the Jews? After all, he believes there is no place for them here. Am I stretching the point? Do not his words reveal what’s in his heart?

It’s time for New Yorkers and all Americans to wake up and respond to the dangers threatening our liberties, or we will have to explain to our grandchildren why we stood by and did nothing while the secularists stole our liberties.

It is as President Reagan told us, “If we cease to be One Nation Under God, we will be one nation gone under.” God forbid. Time to vote in godly leadership from dog catcher to president, or our posterity will pay for our complacency.

Considering the gravity our time, and the message I sensed the Lord was speaking to me about His Church, I have been somewhat slow to publish what I believe to be the mission for the Church in 2014. I needed more time than usual to meditate on God’s Word and soak it in prayer as I sought not just God’s mind, but also His heart for His Church. Here is what I believe the Spirit is saying.

1. You (America) have gone beyond the tipping point.

“You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.” –Daniel 5:27 (NIV)

The people have re-elected a leader who not only neglects the rule of God, but in fact, wars against His sovereignty. As a result, God has lifted his hedge of protection and the U.S. will experience, in increasing measure, the effects of the curse. This will manifest in various ways including natural disasters, economic and national defense failures, and domestic chaos and confusion. This should come as no surprise to the “people of the Book,” as the Old Testament is replete with examples of how God deals with nations. The Apostle Paul tells us,

“These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come”–. 1 Corinthians 10:11 (NIV)

So we are without excuse. Our forefathers have warned us:

“The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained”-George Washington, and,

“It is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependency upon the overruling power of God, and to recognize the sublime truth announced in Holy Scriptures and proven by all history that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.”—Abraham Lincoln

More important than what our founders have said is what God says in His Word,

“if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; (2 peter 2:6) Why would we expect God to deal with us any differently?

2. You must repent. Judgment is certain unless we repent according to the formula God has given in His Word:

“If my people who are called by my Name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.” –2 Chronicles 7:14.

National repentance must be led by the leaders of the Church as they repent of:

a) Pride and self-righteousness esteeming themselves more highly than other church leaders of different expressions of the faith.

b) Protecting factions and dissensions which are works of the sinful nature, (Galatians 5:20). The New Testament couldn’t be more clear about the evil brought on by pledging one’s allegiance to anything, or anyone other than Christ and His Gospel. Any division or “denominationalism” based on allegiance to anything other than Christ and his cause is idolatry.

This is the single most responsible cause for the powerlessness of His Church. Jesus taught us that a house divided cannot stand. His house is divided. Our divisions have been the greatest stumbling block preventing the manifestation of the supernatural power of God. Sadly, this condition is preferred by some who would rather spread the Gospel with persuasive speech and the wisdom of men, than surrender to the sovereignty of God and a demonstration of the Spirit’s power (1 Corinthians 2:4). At best, this condition reflects Biblical ignorance; at worst, it suggests a pharisaical attitude that will not relinquish control to God, manifest in the Holy Spirit.

3. Leaders must pursue unity in Christ even at the risk of sacrificing doctrinal distinctives that are not foundational to the faith. We must practice the Augustinian rule: “In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love. As has been said, “If it’s an issue, it’s an idol.” The only Biblical distinctions for local congregations identify them by their location, i.e., “the Church of Corinth,” “the Church at Ephesus,” etc. That should be the heart’s desire of every local pastor, because that is the heart of Christ who prayed that we would “all be one.” How far we have fallen! Leaders must put off their small-mindedness, often generated by their own insecurities, and become more Kingdom-minded. They must choose between building their own church or watching Him build His Church in our midst, and being grateful that we can be a part.

4. Then leaders must be equipped with the knowledge of the role God has played in the life of our nation, and they must teach the people. Just as God told Moses to remind the people continually of how He delivered them from bondage, and led them to a land flowing with milk and honey, so too, must today’s leaders remind the people of God of how He delivered us from bondage and tyranny throughout our American history. Then, equipped with knowledge and faith for the future leaders must teach their people to pray fervently for God’s mercy. The Church must be a house of prayer, until we see a genuine visitation from God, a supernatural presence that will melt hearts and resurrect His Church.

5. Then we must get up to possess the gates of the enemy. The “gates” are the place where decisions are made for our community, like the school board, the PTA, the town council, and any other place in the civic arena where “we, the people” gather to make decisions for our communities. We must “re-Christianize” American politics if America is to be redeemed. Human nature does not change, and just like the Israelites, we too, have been “complacent in Zion.” And like the Israelites, our “feasting and lounging” will end suddenly, unless we repent, (Amos 6).

*************** This is what I believe God is saying to the Church concerning our mission in 2014. I would only ask that you would prayerfully consider what I have said, and to the extent God confirms this word by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in you, to that extent I pray that you would respond as He leads you. I would be honored to help in any way I can to see this nation come back to God, for the benefit of my grandchildren, an unsaved world, and His glory!

It tells us this administration is both grossly incompetent and grossly deceitful. Obama is showing himself to be a snake oil salesman intent on controlling the populace at any cost.  He not only continually lies to the American people, but then he lies about lying! It’s apparent he lives in a fantasy world of his own making where he can do no wrong. In his mind the facts must be subordinate to his fantasy. His words are more connected to his fantasy than they are to truth. He is the classic “con-man.”

Even if the Obamacare website is fixed, that only represents the surface veneer of the plan. The best they can do is to give it the appearance of functionality, but once you go beneath the surface it will be a bundle of chaos that will destroy the best health care system in the world. If they demonstrated such incompetence on that which is plainly visible to the public can you imagine how bad that which is below the surface will be?

It must be repealed, and the money that was spent needs to be returned to the American taxpayer. Obama succeeded in redistributing wealth, not to the poor, but to his cronies. In that he was successful. We need to take whatever legal action we can to recover money spent on incompetence and fraud.  I wonder how much Obama’s net worth has gained in these years. Let’s begin calling for him to return whatever he has gained from his con game, then let’s go after his friends, and recover whatever we can.

The specific charge is malfeasance. There can be no better example of malfeasance than Obamacare.

It appears that Barak Obama is about to launch a “limited” strike against the Syrian regime in response to their use of chemical weapons against their own citizens. This decision was prompted by the fact that Obama declared that the use of chemical weapons would cross a “red line” that would result in serious consequences. Now his bluff is being called, and he must act or be seen as a weak ruler whose word means absolutely nothing.

In other words, he is being shamed into action. This is not exactly the best rationale for military action, nor is it a reasonable substitute for an intelligent foreign policy.

Moreover, a decision motivated by a need to protect someone’s ego could easily result in a greater fiasco than the unthinking politicians could ever imagine. A limited attack on Assad could be just enough to  provoke him to retaliate against Israel, bringing an escalation that will ignite the tinderbox of the entire Middle East. Obama could, in fact, play the role of the proverbial instigator who starts a fight then walks away. In this case the people of the Middle East will become the victims of failed U.S. foreign policy, or rather, failed random military actions in the absence of any real “foreign policy.”

To make matters worse, the public announcement that the goal is not regime change takes all the teeth out of any action that may be taken. As long as Assad believes he will be untouched, he will continue to fight and kill to maintain power.

This may very well be the beginning of that last World War. Unfortunately, our government is led by incompetent self-serving people who live in a fantasy of their own making. When reality hits all hell may break loose. Are we ready?

By Rev. Bill Banuchi

Democrats are ecstatic over their expectation of an easy win for Hillary Clinton to continue the fundamental transformation to Socialism advanced by the Obama administration. The polls indicate Republicans have no one to compete with Hillary, and given the present schism among Republicans, between conservatives and moderates, Hillary may not have to work very hard. Is there any way, then, for Republicans to win in 2016 to reset this nation’s systems and institutions to look more like the America we once knew? I believe there is, but you won’t hear about it on T.V. or even talk radio. In fact, it’s so far “outside-the-box” that most politicians would be afraid to even think it. Ironically, it’s as plain as the Motto on our coins, “In God We Trust.” That must become the rallying cry for unity to bring Americans together once again to defeat the powers of godless Socialism. Let’s take a lesson from our history.

At the very founding of our nation the United States was anything but united. It was, in fact, an association of thirteen different colonies with different religions, cultures and ethnic identities. There were deeply rooted differences particularly between the slave holding colonies and those that deemed slavery to be the ultimate “inhumanity to man.” There were also deeply rooted religious differences, particularly between Roman Catholics and Protestants. The European tensions of the Reformation had simply moved to the New World to create New World tensions. How could thirteen colonies so different come together to defend against the greatest force in the known world?

In God’s providential grace he raised up men like Jonathan Edwards and George Whitefield whose preaching would unite the thirteen colonies as “One Nation Under God.”  That was the one fundamental belief they all held in common. They all believed, as was reflected in one of their rallying calls, that there was “No King but Jesus!” Whether Catholic, Protestant, Baptist or Quaker, they could all come under the banner of Christendom, and even the Jew could come under the banner of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob– the God of the Bible.

It was this unity that helped break the stalemate at the Constitutional Convention when there was so much division that progress on a Constitution came to a deadlock until the wisdom of Ben Franklin suggested they take a time-out to seek the Lord’s counsel. Remember the recorded address:

Mr. President

“…In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of Lights to illuminate our understandings? In the beginning of the contest with Great Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection. Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending providence in our favor. ..And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? I have lived,

Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth- that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that ‘except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it.’… I therefore beg leave to move, that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the Clergy of the City be requested to officiate in that service.”

As it turns out, after the Convention, and nine days after the first Constitutional Congress convened with a quorum (April 9, 1789), they implemented Franklin’s recommendation. Two chaplains of different denominations were appointed, one to the House and one to the Senate, with a salary of $500 each. This practice continues today, posing no threat to the First Amendment. How could it? The men who authorized the chaplains wrote the Amendment.

They succeeded because they were united as members of “One Nation Under God!” We can speak of countless times in our nation’s history when our reaffirmation of this fundamental truth was key to our success as a nation, from President Lincoln’s call to prayer in 1863 to President Roosevelt’s D-Day prayer over the radio, to President Kennedy’s reminder that our rights come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God. Every coin of currency boldly declares “In God We Trust.” This is the unifying spirit of Americanism.  President Eisenhower told us in 1953:

“Without God there could be no American form of government, nor an American way of life. Recognition of the Supreme Being is the first –the most basic- expression of Americanism”

If Republicans really want to win they will have to come back to first principles. Not only will they rally Americans around our common standard, but they may also employ the favor of Heaven which has been eluding us as we have drifted away from our public acknowledgement of the God who gave us liberty.

The cry of my heart is to hear a politician running for office begin his speech by boldly declaring, “We are One Nation Under God, and that truth will mark the beginning of all my public policy decisions.”

That will be the words of a winning candidate. Outside the box? You better believe it. Foolishness? To some, absolutely. A winning strategy? I’d bet the future of my grandkids on it.

Now, to find a man or woman of courage to carry it through.

–By Reverend Bill Banuchi –

The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision legitimizing the idea of considering same-sex marriage to be within the scope of civil liberties will have unintended consequences that very few could even imagine. In fact, I believe the seeds for another war between the states have just been sown. Let me explain.

Those who ascribe to the idea that we are “One Nation Under God” believe that there are some basic, fundamental principles established by God that can never be negotiated away;  three in particular are expressed in the Manhattan Declaration: the Sanctity of Life, the historical definition of Marriage, and Religious Liberties.

The history of the United States has been, until recently, the history of achieving a more perfect union by improving our institutions and standards to provide greater opportunities for everyone.  All our advances for equality have been initiated by people of faith motivated by their understanding of God’s will as reflected in the Bible.  Abolition of Slavery, Women’s Suffrage, the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s, these were all fueled by the Biblical understanding of God’s plan for a peaceful and orderly society. Though all these initiatives experienced resistance at their outset, they were eventually assimilated into our culture and now seen as legitimate progressive steps in our journey toward that “more perfect union,” because they were consistent with Biblical ideals and also reflected in natural law.

There have been some missteps along the way. The Dred Scott decision of 1857 which dehumanized blacks, declaring slaves to be “property” not entitled to citizenship or recognition as human beings, launched a long Civil Rights struggle that led to the eventual overturning  of that decision,  because the Bible clearly establishes the equality of all regardless of skin color. As the electorate became more educated concerning this issue it eventually absorbed this “truth” into the fabric of our culture though we paid a great price in blood and treasure, coming close to committing national suicide in our first War Between the States, in which we lost more than 500,000 citizens.

The Roe. V. Wade decision of 1972 likewise spawned a “pro-life” movement led, again, by the Church, because the Bible, and natural law clearly speaks to the sanctity of every human life, and the need to protect the most defenseless among us. As society has become educated on this issue popular opinion has been steadily becoming more “pro-life.” As the U.S. Supreme Court reflects culture, it will eventually overturn another “bad” decision, this time at a cost of the lives of more than 50 million babies.

Now the U.S. Supreme Court has, in effect, given the green light for homosexual rights groups to pursue a universal redefinition of marriage. As they attempt to impose their morality on America, some “progressive” states will acquiesce to their sense of equality based on the religious view of Secular Humanism that declares that there is no higher standard of morality than that which is established by human reasoning. States whose people and institutions still subscribe to the Judeo-Christian standard of morality will never acquiesce to an imposed anti-biblical standard of morality, even if imposed by the U.S. Supreme Court or federal regulatory authorities.

What will make this conflict different than the abortion issue is that no American is being compelled by law to abort a baby, however the same-sex marriage movement is moving toward compelling Americans to recognize homosexual unions as a legitimate moral union, even calling it “marriage”. This will present a clear conflict where people of faith will have to choose to obey God rather than man. State governments that recognize that “It is the duty of nations as well as of men to acknowledge their dependence upon the overruling power of God”  will never bow down to dictates contrary to the standards set by God. One of the mottos from our first war for independence  “Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God” will ring out once again.

I can foresee the day when  people of faith will begin to move toward “faith-friendly” states while humanists will continue to build power in their “progressive” states, thus polarizing the country even more than it has been polarized by the current left and right ideologies, until there will be two standards of morality. This will prove to be untenable in these “United” States of America. We will be, in effect,  as one writer called it, “The Divided States of America.”

There are certain truths that must be agreed upon by all Americans if we are to continue to live with the peace and prosperity that we have known since our founding. The most fundamental truth is that our rights come to us not from the generosity of the state but by the hand of God. Yes, we can debate the meaning of those rights in our various state and federal legislatures, but we must never depart from the laws of nature and nature’s God, or we will surely experience civil discord, chaos, and yes, possibly even war.

Either we will be one nation under God, or many nations under man. Let us pray for the former to avert the conflict and chaos that will result from the latter. Let the seeds sown by the U.S Supreme Court not sprout a harvest of discord and strife, and yes, possibly war between the states. Let us pray and continue to work toward realizing that more perfect union—One Nation Under God.

Why So Many Scandals?

Simple. Religion! What? Yes, you heard me, “Religion.” The present administration is too religious! Let me explain. They appear to be radical fundamentalists in their practice of the religion of Secular Humanism. One of Secular Humanism’s basic tenets is that the highest and the most authoritative entity is the human being who has been evolving over the years to reach greater heights of intelligence and virtue.

The humanist does not believe in a superior written law like the Constitution and the Bible, because after all, we have now “evolved.” The written Constitution must now conform to our enlightened intelligence. That’s why they call it a “living document.” It is not authoritative over modern man but rather subservient to him.

Contemporary judgment of man is the superior authority, so if modern man makes a judgment that is contrary to some written law established at a previous time, then the law must be changed to accommodate the judgment of the man “in charge.” Do you remember the words of Richard Nixon?

“When the President does it that means it’s not illegal.”

That is basic humanist philosophy. That’s the religion—the belief system—that drives this present administration.

Seen through the lens of the religion of Secular Humanism, our Constitution and written laws are obstacles to progress. In their minds, it is a noble challenge to find ways to work around the very principles and laws that we believe have provided stability, peace and prosperity for more than 200 years, unmatched by any other nation in world history.

Just as the fundamentalist Islamofacist sees total logic in killing infidels to meet 72 virgins in heaven, so too, does the fundamentalist Humanist see total logic in undermining the Constitution for social “progress”.

In effect, we are in a three-way war: Islamofacism, Secular Humanism and Christianity. As previous presidents have described wars in their time, so too is this a conflict for our religion, our liberty and our way of life.

So let’s not be surprised when enemies of the God of the Bible act in ways that are consistent with their anti-Christian religions whether it be radical Islam or radical Secular Humanism. They both move toward the same end: the rule of man instead of the rule of law. Another name for that is “tyranny”.

Each scandal brought into the light represents a failed attempt at subverting American liberty, liberty founded on biblical principles. That’s why they do it; that’s why we continue to fight.

I just read an article reporting that a black bishop from Virginia is calling for an “exodus” from the Democratic Party of those who call themselves Christians, particularly Black Christians. (The bishop objects to the label “African-American.” He says he is an American who happens to be black.) Bishop E.W. Jackson Sr. from Exodus Faith Ministries in Chesapeake, Virginia. says the Democratic Party is practicing a “cult-like devotion” to abortion, and has become the “anti-Christian Party,” as demonstrated by their rejection of biblical values, most notably, the inclusion of same-sex marriage in the Democratic Party platform.

No longer can the two labels be claimed with any sense of intellectual honesty. You can’t be a Christian and a Democrat now that the two are diametrically opposed. Christianity is for protecting life; the Democratic platform is for taking life through abortion. Christianity is about upholding God’s order for marriage and family; the Democratic Party is for redefining marriage and sanctioning homosexuality.

We need more Christian leaders who will teach and preach the truths of God’s intention for our nation. I therefore whole-heartedly add my Hispanic voice to my Black brother’s in saying, “Come out from among them!”

This past week commentators have been talking about President Obama’s challenge to the U.S. Supreme Court. They were speculating on why he would make such patently false statements about the function and role of the High Court, particularly since he taught Constitutional Law at Harvard. The question seemed to be,
“Is he really that ignorant of the role of the Supreme Court, or was he just trying to isolate them as a target for his re-election campaign?”

I believe the answer is neither.
You see, his remarks were totally consistent with his liberal and progressive view of a “Living Constitution.” This was revealed when he spoke of the social consequences that would make striking down the law unacceptable. In other words, in his mind the highest authority was not the original intent of the authors of the Constitution but rather the presumed outcomes to meet the needs of society.

That was the established goal; the Constitution would have to conform to meet those needs, so the Supreme Court would have to rule in favor of the law and the interpretation of the Constitution would just have to conform. You see, President Obama’s idea of Constitutional Law subscribes to the ideology of Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes who said in a speech in 1907,

“we are under a Constitution, but the Constitution is what the judges say it is…”

That is the ideology of a tyrant, one who sees himself to be intellectually superior to our founding fathers, and by virtue of his “evolved” intelligence he truly believes he knows better than those who have gone before.

No, President Obama didn’t “mis-speak.” He knew exactly what he was saying, and to him it made perfectly good sense. Given another four years to “rule,” and we may lose the last of those stable Constitutional principles that have preserved us a nation.
